In the fall Danny and I were talking about what we were going to do for the girls’ birthdays. We knew we were going to have a small party, but we wanted to do something as a family…like go to an indoor water park. Then we both looked at each other and said, “Hidden Acres.” Hidden Acres is a Christian camp in Dayton, IA that has a cabin for pastors and their families to use for free. You can also use the facilities of the camp – any indoor or outdoor activities. One of the main attractions from the last time we were there in June was in the indoor swimming pool and hot tub. Since the girls LOVE TO SWIM, we knew that this was the perfect thing to do for their birthdays, and it would also be a great get-a-way for us before we have our new baby in May.
Relaxing while watching a show before bed…the kids LOVE the recliners!
Playing in the gym… we had it all to ourselves which was really fun! Danny packed riding toys for the kids as well as some other toys. That REALLY tired them out! We even taught the girls how to play Carpet Ball… one of our favorites from Camp Berea! Josiah enjoyed playing with balls, riding on the tricycle and running all around (FREEDOM!!).
The kids enjoying the warm sun
Grace took this picture of Danny and me… love it.
After lunch we roasted marshmallows…YUMMO!
Through the smoke… Sticky fingers!
Even Josiah got to enjoy a marshmallow… what a sticky experience!
Reading with Daddy…
He just HATES all of their attention! :)
The next day Danny took the girls to the pool while Siah was napping. He was eager for them to return so I set him up to look out the window. He was DELIGHTED when he saw the van pull up to the cabin.
After exploring with Daddy outside (finding sticks, leaves, rocks and mud, etc.), they took a rest on the swings.
We had a great time! What a fabulous blessing to pastors and their families to be able to enjoy a free retreat like that! I am sure that we will be up there for our yearly retreat in the ones to come! Thank you, Hidden Acres, for blessing us in this way! We made more memories there than we can write or have pictures of!
looks like a lot of fun!! :)
